Recently I have been preaching a series of sermons on the subject of the history of the Bible. It was a lot easier when I didn’t study and preached one sermon that said: “King James good, all others bad!” This series is not an in depth series, but I trust it is a blessing to all who hear it.
The audio/video can be found on SermonAudio.
It’s not that I have a problem with the King James Bible per se, my problem is with the King James Only movement. So, I’d also like to share a Bible and some books on that topic that have been a great blessing to me in this study.
Legacy Standard Bible, Inside Column Reference. As you know by now, this is by far my favorite translation of the Bible and my favorite format is the ICR. This is the Bible I use every day. When I preach from the LSB, this is the one I choose, and I have given several of these away as gifts. Excellent translation, very good format.
Authorized: The Use and Misuse of the King James Bible, by Mark Ward. This 154 page book deals with Bible translations particularly how the English has changed since the KJV was translated. Highly recommended. I have also given several of these away.
The King James Only Controversy: Can You Trust Modern Translations? by James R. White. This 364 page book deals with the origin, text, transmission and translation of the Bible, exposing the errors in the King James Only arguments while demonstrating the reliability of the modern translations. God has preserved His Word! Very much recommend this book! The Forgotten Preface: Surprising Insights On
The Translation Philosophy of the King James Translators by Joshua Barzon. The KJV Preface is largely forgotten, but this 100 page book seeks to remind the modern reader what those translators had to say. And it is relevant to the reader today. Get this book and study. Highly recommended.
King James Onlyism: A New Sect by James D. Price. This is a rather large volume consisting of 658 pages, and admittedly I have not yet read it all the way through. However I have read enough to recommend it. This book gives enough facts and charts as well as history to assist the serious student busy for a while.
There are some other books I recommend and will list them later.
