I was not sure about the Portable Paragraph Reference (PPR) when it first was announced, and to be honest I accidentally pre-ordered it. But I have no regrets at all. In fact, this little Bible is one of my favorites for reading and carrying with me on trips.
Here’s what happened. In May this year, I was camping with some family in Dan Nicholas Park near Salisbury, North Carolina, and I was looking at the Bible online at https://316publishing.com. It was a page I was familiar with and my intention was to just see how much the final cost would be after shipping and handling. Well, someone started talking to me and I accidentally submitted my order (all my information was already saved in the system including my card because I have ordered from them before). I didn’t realize it had happened until a few hours later, but I decided to go ahead with it. My thinking was that if I got it and didn’t like it, I would turn around and resell it. (The LSB is an becoming an extremely popular translation among good Christian people as evidenced in online forums and a growing number of online endorsements from pastors around the world.)
As you can see in these pictures, the PPR is a very nice size (Approx. 4.72″ x 6.69″ x 1.25″) The cover material is Italian Cowhide which is very durable. It is brown in color.
So far I have not found a case that will fit it properly, but that is not a problem since the cover is so durable, with perimeter stitching.
Now even though I ordered it in May, I actually did not receive it until August. The Bible was a pre-order, but it had been delayed even further. I do have to brag here about the customer service I received.
Check out two of the emails I received keeping me informed of the delay:
And…
Obviously I did get the Bible, but that’s just great customer service and I appreciate the team at 316 Publishing for going above and beyond in the way they handled the situation!
The text is black letter with 9.5- point font. There are 95,000 cross references and 14,000 translation footnotes included at the bottom of the page. The paper is a nice 28 GSM, French-milled paper, and the text is paragraph format two column.
The PPR is perfect for carrying places such as into doctor’s offices, as seen in this picture above, or for carrying along in he car as seen below.
This Bible is excellent for reading. The text is black throughout, with red for book titles, running headers, chapter and page numbers.
In the back of the PPR there are maps and tables for weights, measurements and monetary units. This one is printed and bound by Royal Jongbloed in the Netherlands. More information can be found here: https://316publishing.com/products/legacy-standard-bible-portable-paragraph-reference-paste-down-italian-cowhide?variant=44500552188140
(Note: There is another PPR which is a red-letter edition. It is printed and bound in Korea, and I also have one of those. I’ll review it later.)
If you have any questions, want to see more pictures, or want to see a review of another Bible, comment below and let me know. I’ll see what I can do.
