Our church doesn’t have Sunday evening services, so over the past year I have had the opportunity to visit some churches who do. That has been a great blessing to me, and I recommend every pastor do that, if possible. (I’ll write more on that later.)
On Sunday August 27th, my teenagers and I drove to Savannah because we heard that Dr. Jonathan Sarfati was going to be speaking at Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church. I didn’t know much about that church (still don’t really), but Dr. Sarfati has been a blessing to me in my life and ministry.
He had written a book that is worth it’s weight in gold..the title of which is Refuting Compromise. It is “a Biblical and scientific refutation of ‘Progressive Creationism’ (Billions of Years) as popularized by astronomer Hugh Ross.” When I became pastor of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Mansfield Ohio, I wanted to lay a good foundation there so early on I started a series on Genesis. However I knew they had been taught the gap theory. In those early days of Facebook, I found Dr. Sarfati and reached out to him to ask him some questions and he responded to me.
That was almost 15 years ago. And every time I had seen that he was speaking somewhere in my area, I was unable to go…until August 27th. We went, and he spoke for about an hour. The subject he spoke on was “Design, Deluge, and Dilemma.” It was very good, and well attended. He had a time for questions and answers after.
Here’s some highlights from the notes I took:
First miracle of Jesus recorded in the gospels, not the water turned into wine. Rather John 1:1-3.
A rib was taken from Adam’s side to make woman (Genesis 2:21-23). The rib is the one bone that will grow back if it it’s taken (see https://creation.com/regenerating-ribs-adam-and-that-missing-rib)!
1 Corinthians 15:45-49. A literal Genesis is very much tied to the gospel and the early churches must have been taught about Adam from Genesis.
DNA is “Definitely No Accident!”
2 Corinthians 10:5 – We demolish arguments, not people. Here’s a picture I took with Dr. Sarfati. If you wish to learn more about him or the ministry he is with, please go to https://creation.com. I guarantee you’ll be blessed, challenged, and encouraged.
