Today I find myself reflecting on our Bible Conference our church (Sovereign Grace Baptist Church) hosted a year ago this week. There is a lot of work that goes into hosting a meeting like that. I love it! Normally, we would be hosting another one this month, but that just was not possible this year. I’ve had a few friends who have asked, and I am thankful for that. (You know who you are – thanks for thinking of us and praying for us!)
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28, LSB)
Romans 8:28 is a true statement, Bible Conference or no. And instead of crying over the fact that we aren’t having one this month, I am thankful.
I am thankful because when we hosted last year’s meeting I really was encouraged and believed it to be the best Bible Conference we have ever had. One year later I still believe that.
Our theme last year was “The Greatest of These Is Love.” This is a theme that is/was much needed and all our speakers did a fine job of preaching their assigned subjects from the Word of God. Here is the link to the sermons:
The Greatest of These Is Love – Elder Ken Glisch (Christ Fellowship Particular Baptist Church – Paris TN)
Love The Brethren – Elder Lewis Kiger (Memorial Heights Baptist Church – Perry GA)
Love Your Enemies – Elder Todd Bryant (Sovereign Grace Baptist Church – Northport AL)
Speaking The Truth In Love – Elder Tom Horn (Ella Grove Baptist Church – Glennville GA)
The Love of God – Elder Robert Hartley (Ella Grove Baptist Church – Glennville GA)
Jesus’ Example of Love – Elder Todd Bryant (Sovereign Grace Baptist Church – Northport AL)
Thou Shalt Love the Lord Thy God – Elder Tom Horn (Ella Grove Baptist Church – Glennville GA)
Love Your Neighbor – Elder David Green (Sovereign Grace Baptist Church – Hortense GA)
Besides all this good preaching, we had good fellowship with friends new and old, from near and far. Our time before, during, and after the services was a taste of heaven here on earth.
Yes, I am thankful for the privilege of hosting the 2024 Bible Conference and being able to preach alongside these men. What a blessing they were to not only me, but to our church and my family too!
But I am also thankful this evening because I know the future is bright. I may not know exactly what the future holds, but I know we’re in God’s grip. Lord willing, we will hold another Bible Conference in the future.
“And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another,
and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
(Hebrews 10:24–25, LSB)
I am also reminded that Bible Conferences aren’t everything. Sovereign Grace Baptist Church has faithfully met many times every week since then. I am thankful for every Sunday and every Wednesday we meet to worship, whether at the church house or my house, inside the building or in one of our beautiful parks.
If you are in the area of Glynn or Brantley Counties in Georgia, come worship with us. Here’s the church’s website: Sovereign Grace Baptist Church. The crowd won’t be as big as it was during the Bible Conference, but I guarantee Christ will be high and lifted up, and the Word of God will be preached.
Til we meet again, may God get the glory in ALL we do!
